Chlorocala africana, L2-L3 larvae x5
Chlorocala africana larvae, Need a deep, nutrient‑rich substrate that allows them to feed and burrow naturally. A suitable base is made from well‑rotted oak or beech leaf litter blended with finely broken-down wood from the same trees, supported by a portion of soft forest‑floor humus or soil. The material should be fully decomposed, loose, and slightly damp, holding moisture without becoming compacted or wet. Good airflow around the enclosure helps keep the substrate fresh and prevents stagnant pockets.
Larvae grow steadily when the substrate is supplemented with small amounts of additional food. Chopped fruits such as apple, orange, or pear can be mixed in lightly, ensuring pieces are removed before they spoil. A modest protein source, such as Bakers Meaty Meals or dried shrimp, can be added occasionally to support healthy development without overwhelming the natural balance of the substrate.
A warm environment of around 25°C keeps larvae active and feeding well. Humidity is maintained primarily through the moisture held in the substrate rather than heavy misting. Once adults emerge, they benefit from normal room lighting and consistent ventilation to keep conditions stable.
