Clown Isopods (Armadillidium klugii)
Clown Isopods (Armadillidium klugii) thrive when kept in conditions that closely resemble their natural habitat. They remain active and display their best colours within a temperature range of 20–28°C (68–82°F). Humidity should be maintained between 60–80%, providing a moist environment while still allowing for slightly drier areas so the colony can regulate itself.
A suitable substrate should support digging and hold moisture effectively. Sphagnum moss, leaf litter, and other organic materials create a stable base that encourages natural behaviour and helps maintain humidity. Their diet should include protein‑ and calcium‑rich foods such as dried leaf litter, soft rotting wood, crushed eggshells, and vegetables like cucumber and carrot. This variety supports growth, reproduction, and overall colony strength.
Good ventilation is essential to prevent stagnant air, reduce mold risk, and maintain a healthy enclosure. A well‑ventilated terrarium or tub setup provides the airflow they need while keeping humidity levels stable.
