Rubber Ducky (Cubaris sp) Isopods
Care:
Temperature: 18–26 °C
Humidity: medium-high
Ventilation: medium
Difficulty: medium
Origin: Thailand
Size: 15–20 mm
Rubber Ducky isopods thrive in humid, well‑ventilated enclosures with a deep, moisture‑retentive substrate 4-6 inches. A 6‑quart plastic bin with cross‑ventilation is suitable for a starter group of 10–20, while larger colonies benefit from additional space. Provide at least three to four inches of substrate for burrowing and successful moulting. ABG mix, coco fibre, or a blend of organic topsoil, sphagnum moss, and leaf litter all work well. Rotting hardwood, cork bark, and cholla wood offer essential hiding places and supplemental food sources.
They prefer warm, tropical conditions with temperatures between 18–26°C and humidity levels of 70–85%. A clear moisture gradient is important, with one side of the enclosure kept damp and the other left drier. Mist the damp side every two to three days, ensuring the enclosure never dries out completely. The drier area helps reduce stress and prevents moulting issues.
As omnivorous detritivores, Rubber Ducky isopods thrive on a varied diet. Offer leaf litter such as oak, magnolia, or sea grape, along with rotting hardwood. Protein sources like fish flakes or shrimp pellets should be provided two to three times per week. Fresh vegetables such as zucchini, carrot, and cucumber add variety, while cuttlebone or limestone should be available at all times to support healthy moulting and exoskeleton development.
Shipped with all life stages for the best start for a strong colony.
