Snow White Isopods (Porcellio laevis) are a hardy, fast‑establishing variety that adapt well when provided with stable humidity, a nutritious diet, and a well‑structured enclosure. They benefit from a balanced feeding routine that includes protein and calcium several times per week. Suitable calcium sources include cuttlebone, crushed limestone, and finely ground eggshells, while larger colonies can also accept substantial protein items such as fish or pink mice. A steady supply of clean, pesticide‑free leaf litter supports natural grazing behaviour and overall health.
Their enclosure should offer both damp and dry zones, allowing the colony to regulate its own humidity needs. A substrate blend of coco peat, peat moss, and organic leaf litter provides the moisture retention and structure they require. Temperatures between
18–26°C keep the colony active and stable. New arrivals settle best when first housed in a smaller container, then moved into a well‑ventilated acrylic or glass setup with effective cross‑ventilation once established.
As natural detritivores, Snow White Isopods play an important ecological role by breaking down organic matter and supporting a healthy micro‑ecosystem.
