Sun Beetle (Pachnoda marginata peregrina) Fruit beetle

£7.00Price

Handling & Temperament

This species is calm, gentle, and very easy to work with, making it suitable for both new and experienced keepers. They have no defensive structures such as pincers, so handling is safe and straightforward.

They are known for their exceptionally strong grip. Once they latch onto a surface, they can be surprisingly determined to stay put. To avoid injury, do not pull on the legs; instead, gently lift each foot individually to encourage them to release their hold.

Enclosure Requirements

A single pair or small group thrives in an enclosure around 30 × 30 × 40 cm. A naturalistic setup with branches, leaf litter, live plants, and an LED light works well, but any well‑ventilated glass or plastic tank of similar size is suitable. Good airflow helps prevent excess moisture.

Temperature & Humidity

Ideal temperatures are 22–25°C. Humidity around 60–70% is usually sufficient, and the substrate often retains moisture well. Misting is typically only needed every couple of weeks, or when the top layer of substrate begins to dry. This species prefers conditions that are not overly damp, so avoid heavy or frequent spraying.

Diet & Feeding

These beetles are enthusiastic eaters and accept a wide range of soft fruits. Favourites include:

  • cucumber

  • banana

  • pear

  • strawberries

They also benefit from occasional protein such as fish flakes or dried mealworms. Offer fruit 1–2 times per week, with protein once weekly. Begin with small portions and adjust based on how quickly the food is consumed.

Young adults will be supplied (unsexed)
