The Tau Emperor (Aglia tau) is a European silk moth.
Easy to Breed, place pupae out in February for March or April emergence. These moths fly and mate during the day, favouring sunny conditions, and lay eggs on cage sides. The young larvae They feed on lime, oak, birch, hawthorn, and various other trees and shrubs, pupating in leaf litter. They have a single brood each year and are highly recommended for breeding. To rear them, allow the female to lay eggs in rows on host plant branches in early spring. Eggs hatch in about 10–12 days into spiny-horned larvae. Pupation occurs underground in leaf litter, where they overwinter before emerging in spring. Keep temperatures mild, as they are sensitive to heat, and rear caterpillars in plastic boxes or net cages.
